Which ticket for Petra?
| Ticket | Price | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day, accommodated visitor | 50 JD | At least one night in Jordan |
| 2 consecutive days, accommodated visitor | 55 JD | Ideal to include the Monastery |
| 3 consecutive days, accommodated visitor | 60 JD | Slow stay, hikes |
| 1 day, no overnight stay in Jordan | 90 JD | Day trip with no night in Jordan |
Children under 12 enter free in the daytime. The days of 2- and 3-day tickets are consecutive. The Jordan Pass includes Petra entry (1, 2 or 3 days depending on the version) and the visa: if you buy it, do not pay for the ticket a second time. Petra by Night (30 JD) is separate: see the page.
Opening hours
From 2 March to 1 October 2026 the site opens from 6:00 to 18:00; from 2 October 2026 to 1 March 2027, from 6:30 to 17:00. Arrive at opening time: the Siq is calm and cool before the coach groups arrive.
One-day route
- Park entrance and walk to the Siq (about 1 km, then 20 to 30 minutes in the canyon).
- The Treasury, then the Street of Facades and the theatre.
- The royal tombs, then the ancient centre (colonnaded street, Qasr al-Bint).
- If you have the energy: the Monastery, about 800 steps, 3 to 4 hours return.
- Return by the same road: count 7 to 9 hours in all with breaks. Leave a margin before closing time.

Two-day route
Day one: Siq, Treasury, Street of Facades, royal tombs and ancient centre, at your own pace. Day two: the Monastery early, and the "End of the World" viewpoint nearby; or the reverse depending on the heat. If you spend the night in Wadi Musa, you can add Petra by Night on the evening of day one (Sunday to Thursday) and Little Petra at the end of your stay.
How much time to allow?
- Treasury only: 2 to 3 hours return.
- The main part of the site (without the Monastery): half a day to a day.
- With the Monastery: a very full day, or two days.
- With Little Petra and viewpoints: three days at most.
Mistakes to avoid
- Coming on a day trip from Amman without thinking it through: see the day trip; you will have about 6 hours of road for 4 to 5 hours on site.
- Arriving late: the Siq is then crowded and the heat rises.
- Setting off without enough water: bring at least 1.5 litres per person.
- Climbing to the Monastery at midday in summer: prefer the morning or late afternoon.
- Negotiating afterwards, not before: the price of a donkey, horse or carriage is set before climbing on; also ask what the ticket includes.
- Forgetting the sun: there is little shade in the valley; a hat and sunscreen are useful all year.
- Forgetting proper shoes: sand and steps call for real closed shoes.
