The Treasury of Petra

The three versions of the Jordan Pass

Version Price Petra Included in all versions
Wanderer 70 JD 1 day Visa (with conditions) and entry to more than 40 sites
Explorer 75 JD 2 consecutive days Same
Expert 80 JD 3 consecutive days Same

In every version, Petra entry is the biggest part of the value. The official site also lists Jerash and Wadi Rum among the included sites.

The visa: conditions

The visa is waived provided you buy the Jordan Pass before arriving in Jordan and spend a minimum number of nights in the country. The official site says "at least two nights (3 days)"; some guides still say three nights, but the official rule (checked on 23 October 2026) is two consecutive nights. The visa alone costs about 40 JD: check the price and your nationality before leaving, see the Jordan visa.

What is not included

  • Petra by Night (30 JD): separate ticket, see the page.
  • Tours, 4x4 and camps in the Wadi Rum desert; the pass only covers site entry.
  • Transport, meals, guides.
  • Some sites are extras: the official site offers, for example, Bethany (baptism site) at 8 JD instead of 12 JD.

Worked example: does it pay off?

Independent traveller, 4 nights in Jordan, Petra for one day, Jerash and Wadi Rum. The Jerash (about 10 JD) and Wadi Rum (about 5 JD) fees are recorded figures to confirm before you leave.

Saving: about 35 JD per person. Other cases, same calculations:

  • Petra only, 1 day: 40 (visa) + 50 (Petra) = 90 JD without the pass, against 70 JD: about 20 JD saved.
  • Petra 2 days: 40 + 55 = 95 JD against 75 JD: about 20 JD saved.
  • Petra 3 days: 40 + 60 = 100 JD against 80 JD: about 20 JD saved.

When the Jordan Pass is not worth it

  • You do not need to pay for the visa (exempt nationality, or visa already included in an organised trip): the pass costs 70 JD for 50 JD of Petra, so you need at least 20 JD of extra visits to break even.
  • You stay less than the minimum number of nights: the visa is not waived and the saving almost disappears.
  • You visit only a few sites and not Petra: the pass has no point.
  • You take a trip with no night in Jordan: the pass is not designed for that; see the one-day visit.
  • You join an organised tour: ask the operator what is already included.

How to buy and use it

Buy the pass online before you leave: it is the condition for the free visa. If Petra is your priority, choose the version that matches your days on site: see how to visit Petra. The Petra days are consecutive.
