Petra by Night is an evening visit: visitors walk through the candlelit Siq to the Treasury, where a short evening of music and storytelling takes place. According to the official Visit Petra site, the event has existed since 1998 and was relaunched in May 2025 with light projection and immersive narration, on top of the original candles. It runs five evenings a week, Sunday to Thursday, from 8:30 pm to about 10:30 pm, at 30 JD per person (children under 10 free). Prices and times checked on 23 October 2026 on the official site.
Highlights

The Treasury by candlelight
Hundreds of candles are set on the square in front of the facade, which takes on a golden tint; it is the image that made the evening famous.
The walk through the Siq at night
The canyon is lit by candles and the mood is very calm; see the Siq by day to compare.
The music and storytelling
Seated on the ground in front of the Treasury, you listen to music and an account of Petra's history; the version relaunched in 2025 adds projections.

Tips
- The Petra by Night ticket is separate: it is not included in the Petra ticket or in the Jordan Pass (see the Jordan Pass guide). It is valid on the day of issue only and cannot be resold; arrive about 10 minutes early. There is no evening on Friday or Saturday. Is it worth it? Yes if you sleep in Wadi Musa, like quiet atmospheres and have already seen Petra by day: the evening gives a different view of the Treasury. Expect crowds around the Treasury, a place on the ground that is not always well placed, and a text in English; if your time is short, it is better to spend a half day at the Monastery. If you come on a day trip from Amman, the evening is not practical: you would get back very late. Bring a jacket, it is cool at night; bring a torch or a charged phone for the way back. See the Petra page and Wadi Musa to sleep on the spot.
How to get there
Departure from the Petra visitor centre in Wadi Musa; the walk to the Treasury is about 2 km each way, on foot. See Wadi Musa.
