The options at a glance
| Option | Price | Duration | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official taxi | 22.50 JD per car (fixed fare) | 40 to 55 min | Ticket at the counter outside the exit, then you pay the driver; 24 hours a day |
| Airport Express bus (Sariyah) | 3.30 JD per person | 45 to 90 min | Ticket at the counter outside arrivals; departures about every 30 min by day, hourly at night |
| Uber or Careem | about 15 JD (more at rush hour) | 40 to 55 min | Pick-up at the departures level; the wait is sometimes long |
| Private transfer | from about $24 per car booked in advance | 40 to 55 min | Driver waits with a sign, price fixed in advance |
The official taxi
This is the simplest solution for two or three people with luggage. The price is set by the authorities: you buy a coupon at the counter outside the arrivals exit, then hand it to the driver. Keep your accommodation's address on your phone. Turn down drivers who approach you in the hall: pay only at the counter.
The Airport Express bus
The bus links the airport to central Amman: the Tabarbour terminal stop (North Bus Station) and the Fourth Circle area are the most useful. Buy the ticket at the counter near the exit, not online. First departures at 6:00 and 7:00 am, then about every 30 minutes until 6:00 pm, then hourly (times to be confirmed at the counter). Avoid it late at night: the last part of the trip is on foot or by taxi.

Uber, Careem and private transfer
Ride-hailing apps work in Amman, but coverage at the airport is uneven: count about 15 JD normally and more at rush hour. A private transfer costs more than the taxi but is booked in advance, with a driver waiting at the exit: useful for a late-night flight, a group, or if you are going straight to Madaba, the Dead Sea or Petra.
Before you leave the airport
- Visa and Jordan Pass: if you take the Jordan Pass, buy it before arrival; the visa is free if you spend at least two consecutive nights in Jordan (official rule on jordanpass.jo). See also the visa for Jordan.
- Money: three ATMs at the exit, with fees; withdraw enough for several days.
- SIM card: the shops in arrivals sell local cards (Orange, Zain); it is the most convenient option.
