Dana Biosphere Reserve: hiking, village and eco-lodges (2025-2026 prices)

Updated on October 23, 2026

Dana Biosphere Reserve, run by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), is Jordan's largest nature reserve: sandstone cliffs, canyons and a stone village perched above the Wadi Araba. Entry costs 10 JD for non-Jordanians (RSCN 2025 rates), the short trails can be done alone, and the long guided hikes (Wadi Dana, 6 to 7 h) cost 20 JD per person. Allow half a day or a night between Kerak and Petra.

Highlights

The canyon viewpoints

The plateau drops in steps towards the Wadi Araba: sunset from the village is the big moment.

Stone houses clinging to the slope, with cultivated terraces; the "Dana Village", "Rummana Mountain", "Rummana Campsite" and "Caves" trails start nearby.

The Wadi Dana trail to Feynan

The reserve's big hike (6 to 7 h) goes down to Wadi Feynan, with a mandatory guide and a minimum group of 10 (RSCN rates); the return transport must be arranged.

The eco-lodges

The Dana Guesthouse (in the village) and the Rummana campsite are run by the RSCN; the Feynan eco-lodge, on the desert side, is a different stay (ask the RSCN for prices).

Tips

  • Entry: 10 JD for non-Jordanians, 5 JD for residents, 2 JD for Jordanians (RSCN 2025 rates); it includes the short unguided trails. Guided trails (per person, entry and guide included): 10 JD (Dana Village, Rummana, Caves, up to 2 h), 12 JD (Shaq El Reesh, Nawatef, White Dome, 2 to 4 h), 20 JD (Wadi Dana, 6 to 7 h); the minimum group is 6 or 10 people depending on the trail. Accommodation at the Dana Guesthouse (2025 rates, per room per night, breakfast included): about 80 JD for an economy double, 100 JD for a deluxe double; Rummana tent about 60 JD for a double. These rates date from 2025: confirm before booking. The reserve is not included in the Jordan Pass. It is a good complement to Kerak and Shobak on the Kings Highway, before Petra.

How to get there

Dana is about 200 km from Amman, roughly 3 hours, and about 1 hour 30 from Petra. There is no practical public transport: rental car, private driver or excursion. See car rental. For an organised tour including Dana, see multi-day tours in Jordan. If you prefer to drive, you can rent a car for the day.
