Hot Air Balloon in Wadi Rum: Price, Duration, Times and Best Moment (2026)
The Wadi Rum balloon takes off at sunrise and flies for about an hour. Expect 215 to 375 USD per person depending on the operator and the package; the full outing, transfers included, takes 3 to 5 hours, with a very early pickup (around 4:30 am from Aqaba according to reviews). Flights are cancelled in strong wind or sandstorms. The prices come from booking-platform listings checked in October 2026; they are not official and vary with the season. For the site itself, see Wadi Rum.

The red rocks, dunes and 4x4 tracks read like a map; it is the light at the start of the flight that makes the photo.

The flight itself
Balloons usually carry around fifteen passengers according to a guide; the pilot gives a safety briefing before take-off, and the landing spot depends on the wind.
Practical info
Tips
- Prices found on booking platforms: about 215 USD (a 2.5 to 3 hour outing with pickup), 286 to 292 USD for the most-booked option (3.5 hours, a flight of about an hour), 325 to 375 USD with a sunrise jeep tour, lunch or a longer transfer. An old price of 130 JOD per person circulates on blogs: do not rely on it without checking.
- Children under 6 and pregnant women are refused according to several listings. The reserve entry fee is usually extra (5 JOD; included in the Jordan Pass).
- Book several days ahead and keep a spare day: weather cancels flights, and reviews mention a flight cut to 30 minutes in strong wind or a postponement to the next day. Ask about the refund policy before paying.
- Dress warmly: dawn in the desert is cool, especially from November to March. Bring a hat, sunglasses and closed shoes for the landing.
- Some packages include photos and videos of the flight: check. A sunrise jeep tour added to the flight costs more but extends the morning in the desert; see also the 4x4 tour and which tour to choose.
How to get there
Pickup is included from the Wadi Rum camps and, depending on the package, from Aqaba (about 1 hour by road); from Petra or Amman you need to sleep nearby the night before. See Wadi Rum and the bubble camp.
