Wadi Rum by 4x4: Which Tour to Choose (2 Hours, Half Day, Sunset, Full Day)

Updated on October 23, 2026

A 4x4 tour is the normal way to see Wadi Rum: the desert is huge and the tracks are sandy. Options run from 2 hours to a full day, with a Bedouin guide and an open pick-up or 4x4. The duration mostly changes the number of stops and the amount of walking, not the scenery. The prices below come from listings and guides checked in October 2026; they are not official and vary with the season and the number of passengers. For the site itself, see Wadi Rum.

Highlights

Leaving the village

Leaving the village

Most tours start from Rum village. Ask where the vehicle will meet you for the return and whether the tour comes back along the same track.

Practical info

Tips

  • Choosing the length: 2 hours to see the points near the village; 3 to 4 hours, the most popular option, adds the dunes and tea with Bedouins; half a day or 5 hours, with a lunch break and more walking; a full 8-hour day for the arches and distant sites. A 2-hour loop that is only an out-and-back drive is poor value.
  • Indicative prices: 2 hours from about 11 JOD per person with one operator (minimum of 3 people); 3 to 5 hours about 50 to 75 JOD per vehicle in a guide, which is roughly 10 to 20 JOD per person for a 4x4 with 4 to 6 passengers; on booking platforms a 2-hour tour is around 42 USD, a 4-hour tour around 48 USD and a half day with a Bedouin guide around 70 USD per adult.
  • The reserve entry fee (5 JOD according to most sources; free with the Jordan Pass) is almost always extra; also ask whether tea, lunch and the vehicle price are included.
  • Sunset is the most beautiful option but also the busiest: arrive at the viewpoint 30 minutes early. A full 8-hour day mainly makes sense if you are not sleeping on site.
  • Pay in dinars in cash and agree the price per vehicle before getting in; a tour booked in advance on a platform or through your camp avoids bargaining. Camps often offer a tour with the night: see the bubble camp and which tour and camp to choose.

How to get there

Tours leave from Wadi Rum village or the visitor centre, about 1 hour from Aqaba and 1.5 to 2 hours from Petra. Many camps send a vehicle to pick you up at the village. See Wadi Rum.
